Day 1: Thursday, November 7th; The Trip to Indianapolis

The trip began at 5am on Thursday as the band members arrived at Webster High School for bus boarding. At 9:45pm, and 600 miles later, they safely arrived at their hotel in Indianapolis.

Day 2: Friday, November 8th; The Preliminaries

Not quite as early as yesterday, the band members were up at 7am to eat breakfast then head out for a practice session. Unlike our last BOA competition, the day has begun dry and mostly sunny! (Although the competition is indoors in the RCA dome, the dry weather helps with travel and practice.)

Webster gave a great preliminaries performance at 3:00! The preliminaries results for the 79 bands were announced during the preliminaries awards cerremonies at 10:30pm. Webster's performance earned them a Division I rating and a spot among the 30 semi-finalists for tomorrow's performances (Webster to perform at 9:45am). As the crowd headed home at 11pm, we were greeted by rain and light snow.

Day 3: Saturday, November 9th; The Semi-Finals

Saturday began with a 6:30am wakeup to prepare for their 9:45 performance. Webster was fantastic! Many people said that Webster was better than yesterday.

During the semi-finals awards announcements, Webster found out that they did not make it to the finals. The good mood still prevails, though. Webster knows they did their best and that they're still a winner! For their 1996 farewell performance, Webster gave a parking lot performance at the motel dedicated to the seniors. (They continued to perform even though it was snowing!).

Everyone attended the finals performance to cheer on the finalists. We also were able to see Richard Dreyfuss, star of "Mr. Holland's Opus", be presented with an award. He received the "Music For Life" Award from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).

Day 4: Sunday, November 10th; The Trip Home

The students were awakened at 6:30am on Sunday to prepare for the trip home. In Cleveland they were greeted with snow. There were several inches of that fresh white stuff on the ground with predictions for more snow to come later. The snow lightened up as the buses neared Buffalo. With a 10:45pm arrival at the high school, the trip was over. Since the Webster area had not received any snow, some of the crowd who greeted the returning band students were a little surprised to see the ice-encrusted fronts of the buses!
